Comfort Boat Upholstery and Design

Truant anchored in Prinyers cove with her festive sunshade cover

Comfort Boat Upholstery is owned and operated by Donna Miller. Located In Toronto.

When she is not photographing she spends her time on sewing projects for her fellow sailors.

Over thirty-five years ago Donna met her future husband Bradshaw, who was rebuilding a 23-foot wooden foulmouth cutter.   It needed interior cushions and then the rest was history.

As the photography industry moved into a digital age, she craved the physical hands on production aspect of her work.   With a Pfaff 1199 by her side, a 1963 37’ wooden Pipedream sloop called “Truant”. She now has a floating show room for her canvas and sewing accomplishments.

Steadily her friends at ABYC (Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club) commissioned her for their boating projects. Business has grown so much, that it’s barely impossible to walk down the dock without getting flagged over for custom cushion or canvas job.

She loves using tools of the trade to create a three-dimensional shape that is comfortable and functional.

Located in Leaside, she has access to all the canvas and upholstery suppliers a girl could need. She takes great pride in suggesting the right fabric choices. Similar to her photography business, she makes the selection process maneuver with ease.  As an avid sailor herself, one becomes an expert on what works and what doesn’t work.

Her Husband Brad is her number one critic. She has learned from him the aesthetics of making a project look relevant.

She customized every job so each piece becomes exclusive to that boat.

Her work is finished in a timely manner and she has a great reputation within the sailing community.

Keeping the price point within reason while still using quality materials in order to carry though with the customers original vision.

“You are only as good as your last Job “

a mantra she gives credence to, in both her photography and boat upholstery business.
